"I’ve been taking ballet from Heidi since 2017. I started dance through urban choreography a couple of years prior, but wanted to feel more grounded as a dancer. A good friend of mine who is now a professional dancer recommended Heidi. In the beginning, it was difficult for me to grasp the ballet concepts, but Heidi was patient in describing proper foot articulation, plie structure, and arm placement. I took a break in 2019 and then came back in 2022 and I felt like I picked up exactly where I left off. Since I’ve started, my double turns are more consistent, my arm placements and lines are cleaner, and I feel more confident learning ballet combinations. I’ve taken Heidi’s class in conjunction with hip hop foundation and urban choreography. Heidi’s classes have made me feel more grounded in my choreography and improved my ear musicality. Ballet has taught me that growth is a slow progression, and it’s extremely rewarding once the moves click and make sense. Heidi has been a supportive instructor throughout the entire process. Once I progressed to a more intermediate/advanced dancer, I felt Heidi start to push me in a positive way in working on the small details with me. When I moved to Los Angeles, she offered online classes & I chose to stay with Heidi because I appreciated the culture and community she created as well as the ballet combinations we learned. I felt over time that the combinations became harder & progressively challenged me. It was a good balance between not feeling discouraged and feeling challenged.
Overall, I highly recommend Heidi and will continue to take her class. If you are a dancer with little to no ballet experience, I highly recommend taking her ballet from the beginning class first. For me, I started in her beginner ballet class and I stayed in that class for the first year and a half until I felt more comfortable with her ballet combinations. Ballet takes awhile as your body develops muscle awareness and I am so grateful that Heidi taught me all of this! Anytime I have friends who ask me where I learned ballet, I always send them to Heidi."

"Whether you are new to ballet, experienced, or returning from a break, there is a class for you at Dancing with Heidi. Her technique is masterful and she will adapt to each person’s goals and abilities without judgment. Classes are a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone no matter your age, size, or ability level. After returning to ballet from a decades long break, my classes with Heidi enabled me to get back into pointe shoes, which I didn't think was possible. Heidi also provides performance opportunities for her students which allows me to fulfill my passion to perform dance.

As an adult with zero formal dancing experience, I was extraordinarily intimidated and overwhelmed at the thought of learning ballet, let alone learning alongside other folks. Heidi’s Ballet from the Beginning class almost immediately dispelled those feelings.
Her ability to create such an inclusive atmosphere is demonstrated by the ease at which student comradery forms, providing a support system that allows us to laugh off our mistakes and collectively celebrate our successes.
Heidi has a clear passion for teaching with her ability to break down components into bite sized pieces where I can see and feel consistent improvement from class to class. Her corrections feel simple and intuitive, offering modifications tailored to building a foundation that allows students to recognize their limitations and improve from there. Combined with her Stretch and Strengthen + Barre class, I feel so much more confident on my feet and eager to keep coming back. "

"I began dancing with Heidi about a year and a half ago, after retiring from a long career as a high school teacher. I had never in my life taken a dance class before joining Heidi’s Older Adult/Senior Ballet from the Beginning and Basic Ballet classes. Now, I can’t imagine my life without dance! Ballet with Heidi has cultivated in me a whole new appreciation for discipline, consistency, acceptance and patience. Yes, I struggle with learning the techniques, routines and even counting the music cues, but through that struggle I am more alert, resilient and plugged into my brain and body. I see and feel a bit of progress every week. And sometimes, I have a breakthrough, which is an almost magical experience, especially at my age. My body is stronger and chronic aches and pain in my hips and lower back have disappeared. All this in a class environment which is challenging and nurturing, light-hearted and serious, and always welcoming and inclusive."

When I went to my first Ballet from the Beginning class with Heidi almost 3 years ago, I was terrified! As a middle aged woman with medical needs, I had not been in a dance studio in ages - but I wanted to take ballet so badly! I found not only a supportive, safe, and welcoming environment, but also expert and individualized instruction that finally led me to master proper placement and technique, skills that I continue to successfully build on. Unlike many adult drop in classes I took in my youth, Heidi does not just let dancers "go through the motions". With a quick glance, she can see exactly where you need to adjust your body, shift your weight balance, or focus on a certain set of muscles. She provides this feedback in a gentle and supportive way so that all dancers can truly learn proper (and safe) technique before moving to more advanced combinations. To be sure, Heidi does not just teach beginners, and she does not just teach adults. Her students include advanced dancers en pointe as well as children and youth. However, for me, I do feel that Heidi has a special strength in welcoming "non-traditional dancers" to ballet. In my class, there are both men and women, young teens and retired folks, people in leotards and tights as well as sweats, all shapes and sizes. Today, my health is much improved and I attend Basic Ballet whenever my work schedule will allow.

"Heidi creates a Ballet Community within her classes that transcends old school ballet ideology and addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of ballet. She is a true educator. It is very much worth trying this new ballet experience at any age or level."

I have been taking ballet lessons with Heidi since 2012, when I was in my 40’s. Heidi is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She always comes up with different ways to explain technical movements to those like me who did not learn ballet as a child. She has an eagle eye, and can spot what I am doing right, and what I am doing wrong. She makes learning fun!

A little over two years ago I was looking for a ballet barre class to supplement my physical training regime. I noticed a flyer for Heidi’s classes and began taking her Monday Evening Beginning/Intermediate class and her Ballet from the Beginning class at the Sierra 2 facility. I am so glad that I did! Not only has my core and leg strength grown, my balance and control of my body improved, but also my knowledge and appreciation of the Ballet have grown. We recently saw “Sleeping Beauty” and I was able to really appreciate the time, energy, and work that the dancers had to do to make that performance look so effortless and beautiful. So…if you are looking for a new activity to challenge your body and improve your cultural awareness, check out Heidi’s classes.

I have attempted to study ballet a few times in my adult life; but I never got very far. Learning with Heidi has been different.
Over the last few years dancing with Heidi, my brain works better remembering exercises and dance combinations; my body is more supple and flexible; and my legs and core are super strong. I had thought my dream to go en pointe would was impossible because of my age; but with the knowledge and strength I have gained, I am able to safely learn how to dance en pointe.
Heidi has a no-tears approach to teaching: she embraces each dancer's unique limitations due to injury, physique, trauma, or learning disabilities. She recognizes that practicing ballet is both a mental and physical exercise that challenges the whole person. She pays close attention to form: no fake turnouts or extension allowed. She sees everything! And, while she teaches proper dance etiquette, especially concerning respect and safety, her classes are really fun. Students can express themselves, laugh, and let their personalities shine.

I always wanted to take ballet lessons but I was never able to as a child. Once I realized there were adult beginner classes and after doing a lot of research, I picked Dancing with Heidi for the "Ballet from the beginning" classes. I was nervous to go to the first class but Heidi was really nice and welcoming. I told my husband about my experience, which encouraged him to sign up as well. So far it has been a great experience. It is very hard but I enjoy going to class every week. Heidi is a great teacher; always kind and helpful and also very funny. I appreciate her corrections and her willingness to work with you one on one when needed!

"Before joining Heidi's class, I had no relevant experience or knowledge, making me as much of a beginner as possible. She's extremely patient and knows how to teach from the very beginning, and I've enjoyed her class a lot because of that. Not to mention, Heidi goes out of her way to memorize the names of every student in her class and make some level of connection with them, I'm always surprised when she calls out names of people on their first day! If you're interested in giving ballet a shot without feeling like you have to commit, Heidi's classes are the best way to do so!"

If you think you can't learn ballet, you haven't met Heidi! I started her class with no experience and a lot of nerves. She provides a supportive, non-competitive space where everyone gets individualized feedback to help them grow.
Heidi never pressures anyone to get on stage, but she makes the annual showcase so welcoming that even I—someone who originally said I would never perform—now can't wait to hit the stage. She is an incredible teacher for students of all ages!

"Heidi's classes have been such an enriching addition to my life. Before joining I had over a decade of competitive dance experience, but no ballet, and it had been over a decade since I had danced. Heidi's classes are serious and helped me rebuild a lot of strength postpartum. While challenging, Heidi is very focused on helping you progress within the confines of what is safe for your body. Perhaps the most delightful aspect of these classes is the diverse and inclusive community Heidi has built. Come for a workout or to just experience the joy of dance."

I started ballet with Miss Heidi when I was just five years old and after 4 years away at college I was amazed at how quickly everything came back to me. Even after time away diminished my strength, the technique and artistry she instilled remained as muscle memory - a testament to how deeply her training shaped my skill, confidence, discipline, and lifelong love for ballet. Miss Heidi builds such a strong technical foundation and love for ballet that allows dancers to truly grow, both in the studio and beyond!

"I love taking ballet with Heidi because she provides an inclusive environment. I have improved my heart health and I appreciate her attention to detail when she teaches proper technique. I look forward to classes every week!
Heidi is an incredible teacher with a good eye and excellent feedback. I danced when I was younger and have come back to dance after years away from it. It’s a joy to come to her class both for the stellar instruction and the supportive environment she cultivates for her classes."

"I remember when I was younger, there was a time when I was considering taking ballet classes, but I ended up not. Now as an adult and taking ballet classes for the first time from Heidi, I couldn’t be any happier. She is such an amazing instructor. The amount of passion and knowledge she has for ballet is so apparent. Not only are her classes informative, but they are fun to take as well. The way she structures her classes makes the environment feel so welcoming, comfortable, and encouraging, making it the perfect, ideal place for anyone, beginner or seasoned, to take ballet classes. I highly recommend for anyone interested in taking ballet classes to sign up with Heidi."

“I’ve been taking classes with Heidi for three years because ballet is my reset after a stressful workday. Her classes provide a supportive environment where I not only grow but also enjoy watching other students succeed. Ballet keeps your mind fully engaged, so you don’t even realize you’re exercising—it’s both challenging and energizing.”

I've been taking Heidi's classes for over ten years, and I can vouch that they are fun, focused, and strengthening! She's willing to work with people at whatever level they're at, so there's never any pressure to go beyond your limits, while still pushing to improve day by day. I always feel welcome, my body feels much stronger, and my balance is greatly improved.
